Domestic energy assessors may find their recommendations for microgeneration are being heeded more frequently as one expert has claimed more people will install devices as energy costs rise.
A spokesman for British Eco Energy, which provides renewable energy technologies, said that the appeal of microgeneration is rising.
He said: "Gas is going up, electricity is going up, if you can save yourself money and can make yourself more eco-friendly then more people will go for it."
In the past year gas prices have soared, with British Gas hiking prices by 35 per cent.
The spokesman mentioned various different options for households, including solar thermal panels "so your boiler doesn’t have to work during the summer".
He added that rain harvesting is useful for water conservation though rain water should not be used for "anything your mouth goes near".
While he said that a wind turbine will not cover all electricity needs, he said that if it runs at times when energy is not being used, it could contribute to paying off electricity bills and its own cost.
The government recently announced that it would support homeowners who installed microgeneration devices by offering them an above-market fee for every unit of electricity they generate.
